Motorcycle Accidents Cause More Severe Injuries Than Car Accidents, According To A Recent Study.

No matter what you are driving, being on the road can be dangerous. The speeds are high and the vehicles are heavy, meaning tons of force is exerted each time a crash occurs. Despite research and technological innovations designed to make vehicles safer for travel, for the foreseeable future, there does not seem to be a way to remove the risk of injury. It is tough to imagine a new design for motorcycles, for example, that would reduce the risk of injury without sacrificing the body design and compactness of the vehicle that make it so popular. In such a situation, it would be wise to contact an expert motorcycle injury attorney at 617-787-3700.

A Canadian medical journal recently published a study indicating that motorcycle accidents result in more severe injuries, more fatalities, and more costly medical treatment than car accidents. The study also found the injury rate for motorcycles to be three times higher than the injury rate for cars.

Interestingly, although there have been advances in motorcycle safety and design, mortality associated with motorcycle trauma has not decreased, and may in fact have increased, according to the study. Further, over the first two years after a collision, motorcycle accidents cost twice as much money for medical treatment as injuries resulting from car accidents. Although studies before this have shown the fact that the motorcyclist is far more exposed to the road and therefore far more subject to injuries, this is one of the first studies to compare medical costs, and provides another caveat for those interested in purchasing a motorcycle.

Fatal Motorcycle Accident In Lake County, Illinois Marks Second Such Occurrence In One Week.

Riding a motorcycle carries with it inherent risks that outweigh most other forms of transportation. Motorcycles offer little in the way of external protection, and compared to cars and airplanes, they lack the means of mitigating physical damage once a crash has been initiated. From driving while intoxicated to poorly designed models, motorcycle accidents can occur for a variety of reasons, and often result in significant injury. In such a situation, it may be wise to contact an expert motorcycle accident attorney at 617-787-3700.

At approximately 5:15 AM on July 13, 2018, a man was found dead just outside of Antioch, Illinois, apparently the victim of a motorcycle crash. While one such accident is concerning enough for Lake County, this crash marked the second fatal motorcycle accident of that week. Reports indicate that the driver of the motorcycle was headed out of town when he hit a tree, likely at an extremely high speed.

Similarly, on Wednesday of that same week, a motorcyclist who has recently been identified as Apolonio Patlan of Waukegan, Illinois, crashed and died at a busy intersection. Both crashes are currently being investigated by local and state authorities, and county officials are underway in assessing the current safety landscape for motorists in the area.

Wife Of Man Who Died In Motorcycle Accident Claims City Was Negligent In Maintaining Street Visibility.

Generally speaking, when a fatal motorcycle or car accident occurs, we tend to assume that the fault lies with one of the parties involved in the crash. However, it may be the case that the city responsible for maintaining the streets and protecting the safety of its residents was at fault. In such a situation, it may be wise to contact an expert motorcycle accident attorney or car accident attorney at 617-787-3700.

On June 19, 2017, Aaron De Senna Fernandes was struck and killed by a jeep while riding his motorcycle through Kokomo, Indiana. Fernades’s wife, Shannon Bishop, claims that the city allowed several bushes and trees to grow so long as to obstruct the view of the jeep such that it was impossible for the jeep to see Fernandes approaching. Had the bushes and trees been properly maintained, the accident would not have occurred, according to Bishop.

The city code states that obstructing or endangering free passage on the streets is an offense, but it will require a lawsuit to determine whether the city was in violation of this ordinance. Bishop is represented by attorney Matthew Golitko of Golitko and Daly, located in Indianapolis, Indiana.
