The North Carolina Highway Patrol has reported that a pastor at the Amity Christian Church in Grantsboro, North Carolina died this past Saturday, April 11, 2014, while riding his motorcycle for charity in Craven County, NC.
According to police officials, 68 year-old Richard Baldwin, of Oriental, North Carolina, was riding his motorcycle in the Journey of Hope Cancer Support Center charity ride at approximately 10:40 a.m. this past Saturday, April 11, 2014. Baldwin, who is a pastor at a local church, attempted to pass several vehicles involved in the ride. During the attempted passing maneuver, Baldwin lost control of the motorcycle, went off the road and crashed into a railroad line. Baldwin was thrown from his motorcycle into a water-filled ditch.
Emergency responders pulled Baldwin from the ditch and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation without success. Baldwin was pronounced dead at the scene of the biker accident.
Police are investigating the motorcycle accident and have stated that excess speed appears to be a major factor in the biker crash.
