Edwin Mieses Jr., of Lawrence, Massachusetts, was seriously injured after he, and a group of other bikers participating in an unsanctioned rally in New York City, was struck by a sport utility vehicle. Mieses and his fellow bikers had surrounded the SUV to harass the driver, and the driver’s wife and 2 year-old child.
According to the police in Massachusetts and New York, Mieses has not had a license to drive since 1999. Mieses had apparently never applied for a license to drive a motorcycle. Mieses was arrested most recently on May 24, 2013 in Andover, Massachusetts for reckless driving and driving without a license. Prior to that, Mieses was arrested by the police in New York for riding a motorcycle without a license.
This past June, the Registrar of Motor Vehicles in Massachusetts notified the National Driver Register that Mieses is a habitual traffic offender, with over 16 recorded violations in Massachusetts alone. Mieses’ driver’s license has been suspended in Massachusetts until 2017.
Mieses was severely injured when he was struck by the frightened SUV driver. Mieses suffered two broken bones in his legs, and a spinal injury, which may keep him in a wheelchair for the rest of his life.
