Staff Sgt. Matthew Dennison, 25, a native of Illinois, was killed in a motorcycle accident this past Sunday outside of the Luke Air Force Base in Phoenix, Arizona.
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety (“DPS”), Sgt. Dennison was riding his motorcycle on Interstate 10 in Buckeye, Arizona, when a white Ford pickup truck rear-ended his motorcycle at around 5:45 p.m. on Sunday. Authorities say that a second pickup truck ran over Sgt. Dennison’s bike, but did not hit the air force officer. At that point, Sgt. Dennison had already been thrown from his motorcycle and onto the pavement.
Sgt. Dennison was transported to the Saint Joseph’s Hospital & Medical Center emergency room in Phoenix, where he was pronounced dead a short time after arrival. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the biker crash.
Sgt. Dennison was an experienced biker and had completed both the beginner and experienced motorcycle courses offered by the Luke Air Force Base. He was also certified as a Harley Davidson mechanic.
The Arizona DPS is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding Sgt. Dennison’s death. Excessive speed may have been a major factor in the wrongful death.
