Authorities in Huntersville, NC are reporting that a man was killed around 3:15 PM on Sunday, March 2, after he crashed his motorcycle and struck a vehicle in his path on the 167000 block of Huntersville-Concord Road.
Authorities say the accident occurred when Kenneth Lavern Owens, Jr., 40, was forced to lay down his motorcycle while traveling northeast on Huntersville-Concord Road after an oncoming vehicle turned left across his lane and into his path. That vehicle, a Chevy Trailblazer, was driven by 73-year-old William Holtzclaw, who apparently did not see Owens on his motorcycle.
Owens became separated from his motorcycle and slammed into the passenger side of Holtzclaw’s SUV. Owens, who was wearing a helmet at the time, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have charged Holtzclaw with misdemeanor death by vehicle and failure to yield the right of way.
Numerous emergency personnel responded to the accident, including workers from the North Carolina Highway Patrol, the Huntersville Fire Department, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, and paramedics from MEDIC.
